Covid 19 guidelines? IMPORTANT

We follow the government guidance for covid 19. We have a hand sanitising station at the entrance that we ask all players to use on entry and exit. We ask that masks are worn at all times. For more information read our COVID Policy

Building guidance. IMPORTANT

We do not own or rent the whole building that our escape rooms are located in. We ask that all players respect the other tenants of the building by remaining quiet while in the common areas of the building and while in the room trying not to act in a way that would cause disturbances to other people in the building. For more information please refer to our Terms & Conditions

What is an escape room?

Short answer:

An escape room is an experience where you and your team must work together to solve puzzles and tasks in order to find a way out of a locked room before the time limit runs out. A games master watches over the team and provides hints if needed to help make the experience as enjoyable as possible.

Long answer:

An escape room is a room you must escape from. Now I’m not talking about one of these master plan rooms of doom that Batman or James Bond find themselves trapped in. You’re in no danger from anything in the room. Things outside the room (e.g an extinction level asteroid strike, nuclear war, killer bees) could still pose a danger but being sealed in a room actually nullifies some of these dangers. So I repeat: You’re in no danger!

In essence, an escape room is an experience where you use various skills to solve puzzles and tasks in a specific sequence to unlock the exit door to the room. Think of it as a whole episode of The Crystal Maze but without the whole faff of running to different rooms. If you escape in time, well done you. If you don’t escape in time you can always come back and try again, you wont be trapped forever!

During the experience you will be lovingly watched over by one of our games masters. They have to role of sitting hunched over a monitor watching your every move and eavesdropping on your conversations. We are aware that this role does sound excessively creepy but it is an essential one. If one of the puzzles turns out to be too complex for your team to solve you can request a hint which will be provided to you. If the games master wasn’t acting in a psychotic stalkery way then they would have no way of knowing what hint to provide you with. While our games masters are bound by non disclosure and privacy agreements just bear all of this in mind before deciding to start having embarrassing domestic disputes.

Is it scary?

Short answer:

Rooms aren’t designed to be scary. Some may be in the future but it will be obvious by their names and descriptions.

Long answer:

Well that depends. If you’re claustrophobic then yes it might be a little scary to you. If you have a phobia of padlocks… padlockophobia?… then yes the experience will probably scare you. If you had an unfortunate and traumatising experience with puzzles then this experience might trigger your PTSD. What I’m trying to convey here is that different people are scared of different things for many different reasons. While we try not to make the rooms scary experiences (unless the room is designed to be scary), you must use some discretion as to your own fears. Each room has it’s own page on the site that gives you all sorts of information about what you can expect from the story in there. Things that wont be mentioned on the rooms page that may be scary to some people are:

Padlocks, keys, codes, puzzles, doors, walls, hidden compartments, mirrors, timers, common sense (apparently a very common phobia), cyphers, maps, invisible ink, non-invisible ink, mazes, magnets, cameras, uv lights etc.

Do I have to arrive in advance?

Short answer:

Arriving 10 minutes or so before your start time would be great as that would allow our games master plenty of time to set the scene and help you immerse yourself into the experience once you’ve completed the boring signing in and paperwork section of the game.

Long answer:

Arriving about 10 minutes earlier than your sessions start time would keep our operation flowing smoothly. Now, I know that the smoothness of what we are doing here is probably the last thing you personally care about but if everyone decides to ignore our operation smoothing system then what you will encounter when you arrive is likely to be rough. VERY rough! So rough in fact that you will feel like you’ve been cheese grated by the end of the experience. And that is not the way that people should feel after anything!

I need to reschedule my reservation!

Short answer:

If something unexpected comes up and you need to reschedule that is no problem. Simply Contact Us and let us know the details of your current appointment and when you’d like to reschedule to. We will work some Xscape Rooms magic and tansfer your appointment to the new time with absolutely no issues. Well… no issues as long as the time slot is free, and we’re open at that time.

Long answer:

Well, well, well, if it isn’t your arch-nemesis unexpected commitments and its slimy sidekick Dave! Bereavement, illnesses, bosses who demand you come in on your days off, house fires, car trouble, getting so drunk you end up in Austria with no passport. These things do happen and we understand that some situations are much more important than an escape room experience. If a situation like this does crop up and you need to reschedule then that is no problem. Contact Us and let us know the booking details and when you would like to reschedule to and we will let you know what times are available. In exceptional circumstances where you absolutely must do the experience on a certain date and we have no bookings availbale for that time then we may also be able to arrange a booking outside of the usual operating hours.

How many people can play at once?

Short answer:

Rooms can be attempted by groups of 2-6.

Long answer:

Excellent question budding escape room user! The convention at the vast majority of escape room premesis is that games are for 2-6 players and we absolutely stick to this convention for now. If you were to attempt a room alone then you would most likely fail to escape in time as a lot of puzzles can be solved faster with multiple people and some rooms actually require two people to achieve some form of task. At the other end of the spectrum if you had 70 players then nobody would be able to move and you’d probably set a new world record for escaping as the pressure of all those people squished into a small room would pop the door off its hinges! Now this convention may be changed in future depending on what rooms we open. Maybe there will be one that can be completed by one person. Maybe there will be one that shouldn’t have more than 3 players for some reason. Maybe we’ll acquire a warehouse and build the ultimate giant escape room that can be played with 40 people. Who knows what the future will bring! But for now we will stick with the 2-6 player standard.

How much does it cost?

Short answer:

Rooms are priced on a per person basis. They range from £25 per person for a group of 2 to £19 per person for a group of 6.

Long answer:

Each rooms cost can be found on its page. If we release a room made entirely out of gold then we would need to charge a lot for people to play that room! However in general rooms are priced on a per person basis so while you need to pay more for more people to play it is cheaper per person. You can expect our rooms to range from £25 – £19 per person unless we really do make a gold room!

Do you have wheelchair access?

Short answer:

Unfortunately we do not have wheelchair access.

Long answer:

Our rooms are located on the top floor of a possibly listed building and we are renting so cannot update the property for wheelchair access.

Where are you located?

Short answer:

There is a nice little google map reperentation on the contact page. The post code is LL57 1DT.

Long answer:

We are located in Bangor, North Wales. It’s a lovely little university city which unfortunately has barely any entertainment prospects and so an escape room is the perfect diversion to keep the locals out of trouble and bring in some tourist money in the hopes that more ventures like this can open up around here. If you head on over to the contact page you can see a map of our location. Google maps doesn’t seem to want to put the pin in the exact location and has opted to point at an independant school instead. We are not located there so do not attempt to enter that building unless you want to be arrested! We are located accross the road from where the pin is pointing.

Do I have to have a team photo?

Short answer:

Not if you don’t want one.

Long answer:

Team photos are a nice way to comemorate your success or failure at getting out of a room. They get posted on social media to help us promote our business and for random internet strangers to gawp at! You are under no obligation to take part in the photo and there will be no pressure for you to take part. So if you think you’re too ugly for picture or are in the witness protection system then you can still have fun at our rooms without the worry of having your face plastered all over the place.

Is this a haunted house?

Short answer:

No!

Long answer:

Is it called a haunted house?

Do I need a reservation?

Short answer:

Yes.

Long answer:

At this moment in time, yes, you will need a reservation. Random people walking in off the street may work just fine for supermarkets and other shops but we don’t sell things. When nobody has booked a room we will be sitting on a beach somewhere with a nice glass of ginger beer and a good book. Not sitting around in the building hoping that some random people appear and ask for us to lock them up. If, however, you’re asking this question in the hopes that you can book in some way other than using this website and want to pay in cash then contact us to ask. We use a cashless system so we may require you to bring exact cash if we can book you in this way.

If I’m late, can I still play?

Short answer:

We ask that all players try to arrive ten minutes before the start of their experience. This way if there is a slight delay then you are still on time. If you are unavoidably detained then we would appreciate being contacted so that we know what is going on and can advise you of what we can do.

Long answer:

Well that depends on how late you are. If you turn up 6 weeks after the time at midnight then I’m afraid you’re probably not going to get a chance to play. If it’s ten minutes or so then there should be no problem. We do ask that everyone tries their best to arrive 10 minutes before the booked time but we also understand that there are things that are out of your control. If a herd of buffalo block the road then there will be traffic. If your friend spiked your food with extra strength laxatives so you were in the bathroom all night and slept in. If your arm gets trapped in a vending machine. These things happen and they can really mess up your timing. So don’t worry about it. If however you will be running more than 10 minutes late we would appreciate if you could Contact Us and inform us and then we can assess the situation. If there is no booking directly after yours then it’ll be absolutely fine unless you’re so late it runs into the next booked slot. If there is a booking after yours then unfortunately we will have to reschedule the appointment. I know that would be a bit of a poor end to your already stressful day after whatever issue caused your delay but on the plus side this policy does protect you from having to wait around if you manage to arrive on time.

Cancellation policy?

Short answer:

If you need to cancel Contact Us as soon as possible to let us know. If you are cancelling at short notice (within 48 hours of the booking) then there will be a charge unfortunately. There is a charge of half the rooms cost for less than 48 hour cancellations and a full charge for less than 24 hours notice.

Long answer:

Need to cancel? Life thrown things into the mix that is going to prevent you from making it here? That’s fine, you can absolutely cancel your booking by contacting us with the details. If you’re cancelling within 48 hours of the booking time we will have to impose a cancellation fee of half the cost of the room due to lost business which is unfortunate but it is a fact of life that some people like to mess with businesses by making a lot of bookings then demanding refunds at the last minute. If you cancel within 24 hours of the appointment then unfortunately we will not be able to refund you as we do not allow bookings to be made within 24 hours of a game  and have thus lost any chance of using that booking slot. Also we do not allow you to exploit a loophole by rescheduling an appointment an then cancelling it for a full refund.

Are there any age restrictions for participants?

Short answer:

Not currently. Although under 16’s will need to be accompanied by a player over 18. Also due to the layout of the Prison Impossible room there must be 2 players over 18.

Long answer:

Not really. But if you’re planning on bringing a baby into the room then that’s likely to be a waste of a player space unless the baby is a super genius who can read and solve puzzles! Also, if you bring the bones of an ancestor then that would be a health and safety faux pas so as a rule of thumb try to keep the age range of participants between 5 and 1XX (where XX denotes the current age of the worlds oldest person).

How long do I have to complete the game?

Short answer:

Usually 1 hour.

Long answer:

It depends on the room. On average you can expect rooms to have a 1 hour time limit but we may release rooms with different limits. It’s unlikely that any rooms will have a vastly different limit. The limit of a particular room will be shown on the rooms description page along with details of the rooms story, the estimated difficulty and other tidbits of information.

What should I wear?

Short answer:

Preferably comfortable clothing that doesn’t restrict you.

Long answer:

You can wear whatever you want. Certain clothing may be a bad idea however. If you came in wearing an inflatable sumo costume then you’d fail to escape as you’d get stuck in the doorway. The physical aspects may destroy a three piece suit. A mascot costume with a giant head would restrict your vision and make spotting clues much harder.

Parking

Short answer:

Our building is in the town center and thus has many car parks nearby. Our building is next door to a multistory car park.

Long answer:

That’s not a question! But I’ll answer it anyway. There are a lot of car parks nearby. They are all pay and display which isn’t good for those of you who don’t particualrly enjoy paying for parking. There are a few supermarkets nearby that offer some free parking time. A little bit farther away there are residential streets if you have no qualms about making people walk a little farther to reach their house.

Drink and drugs policy?

Short answer:

We ask that participants do not use our establishment whilst under the influence of drink and/or drugs.

Long answer:

I always hate things like this because it doesn’t specify! Sure, you can drink some water or take some ibuprofen for a headache, but alcohol and hard drugs are a big no no! The rooms will be challenging enough for completely sober people so you can only imagine how hard it’d be while you’re inebriated! Plus we don’t want to be cleaning up after drunken accidents!!

What, if anything, should I bring to the game?

Short answer:

You don’t need to bring anything with you.

Long answer:

Nothing at all! Within reason obviously. You must bring clothes, we’re not a nudist colony! You also must bring the other players as not bringing them would be mean and a waste of money. If you’ve somehow contacted us and asked to pay cash then obviously you need to bring that too. We ask that no mobile phones or recording equipment be taken into the rooms and we provide a locker for you to keep those items in while you are in the room. We also ask that you bring your A-game, while we do provide hints if you’re completely baffled by the experince, we’re not going to hold your hand and guide you through every single action you need to take. Also we won’t say no if you decide to bring us gifts.

Special occasions?

Short answer:

We would love to cater to any special occasions you would like. Simply contact us (preferable with plenty of notice) and we can try to meet your needs. Visit the events section for some ideas of what we can do.

Long answer:

Got a friend or family members birthday coming up and want to have the room decorated special for them? Want to propose to your puzzle obsessed partner? Want to prank a friend by making them fail a room? We can do all of this and more! Contact Us with details of what you want. Depending on the request and the amount of notice we have we will try our best to make the experience perfect. There may be additional charges for some requests but we will absolutely try our best to make these minimal.
